Veterans Memorial Park (summer)
Griswold Connecticut
In 1995 The Ashland Cotton Mill burnt to the ground. Over 500 firefighters from neighboring communities could not save this historic site. All that remains today is the brick structure in my painting. This Mill was part of our Industrial Revolution and thousands of people worked here! Workers came from Ireland, England and Canada. My family's dairy farm was kept very busy with milk deliveries to all these new families. This was a time Griswold thrived with wealth and jobs. The day of this devastating fire we lost a part of us and our history. Our local government turned this devastation into Veterans Memorial Park with the beginnings of our new community history which developes with each new day. The old mill houses around the park (in my painting) are now well kept up.
With no reference to the mill that once stood before them and where I am parked painting,
I wonder if they remember our past and our history?
